The Carolina Sailing Club was formed in 1956 when a small group of sailing enthusiasts from all over central North Carolina gathered in the greater triangle to arrange some races at Satterwhite Point on the southern end of Kerr Lake. The following year CSC hosted the Governor’s Cup open regatta on Kerr Lake and in June of 2007 we hosted our fiftieth consecutive Governor’s Cup with nearly one hundred boats in attendance. CSC joined Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association (CBYRA) in 1957. As more clubs were established in our area, we joined SAYRA in 1975. We have been active in that organization since that time. Without owning or leasing any land the Carolina Sailing Club has been able to grow into a leading one-design sailing club in North Carolina by taking full advantage of public facilities at both Kerr Lake and Jordan Lake. The Carolina Sailing has a membership in excess of 85 families and is proud to host a minimum of two weekends of sailboat racing twelve months a year. For the past few years the formally extended its mission to promote learning to sail for both youth and adults with the formation of the Carolina Sailing Foundation which extends the opportunity of learning to sail to many. |
